The International Colloquium on Women’s Empowerment, Leadership Development, International Peace and Security (the Colloquium) is being co-convened by President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf of Liberia and President Tarja Halonen of Finland in Monrovia, Liberia, March 7-8, 2009.

The Colloquium seeks to realize the aims of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security to ensure that women are protected from the worst abuses in times of conflict and to empower them to play their rightful and vital role in helping their countries prevent, end and recover from conflict.

It is in this regard that the International Colloquium in collaboration with UNIFEM and FAS invite you to an ‘Expert Group’ Meeting to be held on 15th January, 2009 in Monrovia, Liberia. The consultations will bring together key actors who have been actively engaged in the implementation of the UN SCR 1325 to share on their experiences, successes and challenges. The meeting will also explore strategic monitoring and evaluation mechanisms, the way forward for the UN SCR 1325 and in addition propose a framework for a statement to be presented to the President of Liberia and the President of Finland for their lobbying activities at the UN Security Council level.
